Traditional Health CenterChinese traditional herbal medicine is an alternative system of treatment arising from a holistic philosophy of life. It emphasizes the interconnection of the mental, emotional, and physical components within each person, and the importance of harmony between individuals and their social groups, as well as between humanity as a whole and nature.
SERVICES
Traditional healing and health at Phuket International Hospital includes using traditional Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, massage, and the use of suction cups, called cupping in conjunction with internal herbal therapy.
For our patients, we find that people can achieve excellent results from using traditional medicine to treat such conditions as headaches and migraines, back, joint and other body pains as well as assistance to quit smoking. The list of ailments and health improvement options that can be treated by traditional medicine is extensive, and many of our patients report excellent results despite having limited success with modern medical treatments.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an integral part of the rapid growth of traditional therapy within Thailand and is rapidly gaining international acceptance. At Phuket International Hospital, acupuncture is practiced by specialists who use an approach to health based on over 2000 years of developments and refinements in the Far East. We also place great emphasis on conducting all our procedures in a safe, and when necessary, sterile environment.
Chinese Massage
Chinese massage focuses on the energy pathways (channels) of the body, and the gateways into them (points). Chinese massage is also closely related to acupuncture in its use of the meridian system and is considered to be effective for a similar range of health problems. Chinese massage is an effective and comprehensive therapy and is highly regarded alongside herbs, diet and qigong.
Cupping
Cupping is a method of treating disease by causing local congestion. A partial vacuum is created in jars, usually by means of heat, which are then applied to the skin, drawing up the underlying tissues and forming blood stasis.
Herbal Medicines
Traditional Chinese medicine uses herbs for preventive treatment as well as for curing illness. Prescriptions are fine-tuned by the doctor and formulated according to the patient's condition, as well as the nature of the herbs. Dried herbs may be mixed with water and used as poultices to treat arthritis, rheumatism, sprains, bruises, abscesses, and strained backs. A distinctive technique is the use of moxibustion, which is the application of heat to an area of skin directly over a meridian by burning a wick made of herbs a slight distance above the skin. Moxibustion is used to treat many conditions, including mumps, vaginal bleeding, pulled nerves, arthritis, and chronic nosebleeds.
