Your Nose: The Guardian of Your Lungs Nose is a “vital organ”

Have you ever experienced a bad cold when you have nasal block and runny nose which effect on quality of life,
energy level, inability to breathe, inability to sleep, and inability to function normally. Nose is important,
about 18,000 to 20,000 liters of air are breathed through the nose each day. The nose processes the air
before it enters to the lung by filtering, warming and humidifying the air to prevent dryness of the throat and lung.
Thus, normal nose and nasal function is essential. Because the linkage between the nose and lungs is so important,
taking care of your nose problems, i.e. common cold, allergic rhinitis and rhinosinusitis can reduce or prevent
problems in the lungs such as bronchitis and asthma. Ignoring of nasal symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose,
nasal blockage or abnormal nasal discharge can aggravate lower airways symptoms and lead to other problems.
Nasal congestion and blockage result in mouth breathing, which will cause dry mouth, increase risk of throat infections and reduces the sense of smell and taste.
Nasal congestion, stuffiness, blockage or obstruction is one of the most common complaints. In some individual nasal blockage may be only a nuisance symptom, but for others, it can be a major discomfort which affects quality of life and it is also a common cause of snoring and sleep apnea.
Mouth breathing allows bacteria, viruses and various pollutants to enter directly into the lungs, while the non-humidified air may cause thick or sticky secretions and resulting in slowing of the cleansing mechanism of cilia and promoting the infection of lung and bronchi.
Uncotrolled nasal diseases increase your chances of developing asthma and also worsening the existing asthma.
