Septoplasty

Septoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove, readjust or reinsert the deviated portions of the septum. It is performed entirely through the nostrils. The surgery might be combined with a rhinoplasty if there is deformity of the external appearance of the nose. Septoplasty may also be combined with sinus surgery if the patients have nasal polyps or sinusitis. The time required for the operation is about one to two hours, depending on the degree and types of deviation. It usually done under general anesthesia and the patients have to stay 1-2 nights in hospital. After the surgery, nasal packing is placed in both sides of nose for splinting and prevention of postoperative bleeding.
